Story of Zainab
Zainab, a 5 year old girl presented to our screening camp in Sarai Karbooza. She was seen by our ophthalmologist and was diagnosed with bilateral congenital cataracts. With blindness in both eyes, Zainab was in need of cataract surgery to restore her vision. However, due to the lack of resources in their village and the cost of the procedure, her parents were unable to afford or facilitate her treatment elsewhere.
Zainab needed to be transferred to a tertiary hospital to have the surgery done by a pediatric Ophthalmologist.
Although this was logistically challenging, knowing that this was a young girl’s vision that was at stake, GMF Australia with our volunteers on the ground facilitated the correction of Zainab’s vision.
Now Zainab is happy and healthy with restored vision in both of her eyes.
