HEART2HAND PROJECT

GMF Australia in our ‘’Heart2Hand’’ project, will be working with asylum seeker and disadvantaged families here in Sydney.

Our aim is to assist with health care and support these families by providing school aged children with uniforms, textbooks and stationery for the coming academic year.

Through our Heart2Hand initiative, we hope to reduce the burden on these families, who have minimal access to government support and provide them with hope for the future.

We initiated our ‘’Heart2Hand‘’ project in January 2022 to help asylum seekers and disadvantaged families here in Australia.

29 children from various schools in Sydney and Brisbane, from years 1 to 12, were provided with school uniforms. A $50 gift card was given to each child to help with becoming school ready. Assistance in maths and English has been offered to children in year 11 and 12 by our volunteers.

GMF Australia aims to assist in providing health care as well as ensuring school aged children have appropriate uniforms and stationery. Sadly, many of these families have significant burdens with minimal access to government support. Hopefully, our assistance can alleviate the stress many of these individuals face.

NEWLY ARRIVED AFGHAN FAMILIES IN SYDNEY:

Volunteers from GMF Australia visited the recently arrived families from Afghanistan. Our team spent an evening listening to men and women and establishing ways that would help them transition to new live here in Australia.

Doughnuts, lollies and toys were handed out to children. Essential medications were given to a lady with cardiac disease who had run out of her supplies.

GMF Australia will be providing medical and humanitarian assistance by working closely with the Afghan community leaders.

MEET SOME PEOPLE WE ARE HELPING:

Khedija

Khedija is a single mum with 4 children aged 8, 6, and 2-year-old twins. She arrived here in Australia by boat, fleeing from government crackdown on the minority community to which she belonged.

Khedija was faced with much trauma on her journey, including the sinking of her boat, which drowned many. Khedija was one of the few survivors of this incident whilst pregnant with her first child at the time.

GMF Australia will be offering support to Khedija and her children by providing for their educational needs in 2022.

Sifat

Sifat is a 7-year-old boy with autism spectrum disorder and global developmental delay.

Sifat arrived in Sydney 2 years ago with his parents, however, due to limitation on their visa, his family lacks access to NDIS funding, thus has been unable to receive the necessary speech and occupational therapy.

GMF Australia has initiated speech and OT session and will be assisting Sifat by providing these services on an ongoing basis whilst also facilitating with his schooling needs.

These are just 2 of the many families we are helping in 2022.
