Nepal 2015

The Nepal mission included volunteers of the GMF from USA, Australia, Canada and Columbia. They had the privilege of working in Kathmandu at the B.P Koirala hospital. Numerous patients presented to the hospital who would not otherwise have had access to health care. Our General surgeons were able to perform many laparoscopic procedures in conjunction with the local surgeons. Endoscopies, orthopaedic and gynaecological procedures were also performed. General medicine and paediatric clinics were conducted during the week long mission. As well as this, the team from Helping Hands Canada fitted prosthetic hands to amputees during the mission. Visits were also made to a number of old age homes and health checks conducted. The volunteers also attended an orphanage to distribute toys and gifts to children. It was a gratifying experience for everybody who volunteered. Many friendships were made and everyone was saddened to hear of the devastation caused by the subsequent earthquakes.
