Pakistan – Vision 2021

GMF Australia with the help of our project partners at Ch Mohammad Hussain Natt Trust (CMHNT) and Dogar welfare trust chose districts of Sarai Karbooza and Wazirabad to set up our eye camps for Pakistan. A total of 152 cataract surgeries were performed in the above locations.

100 cases are planned for the end of June 2021 in Chak Satia, Wazirabad, Pakistan.

Story of Zainab

Zainab, a 5 year old girl presented to our screening camp in Sarai Karbooza. She was seen by our ophthalmologist and was diagnosed with bilateral congenital cataracts. With blindness in both eyes, Zainab was in need of cataract surgery to restore her vision. However, due to the lack of resources in their village and the cost of the procedure, her parents were unable to afford or facilitate her treatment elsewhere.

Zainab needed to be transferred to a tertiary hospital to have the surgery done by a pediatric Ophthalmologist.

Although this was logistically challenging, knowing that this was a young girl’s vision that was at stake, GMF Australia with our volunteers on the ground facilitated the correction of Zainab’s vision.

Now Zainab is happy and healthy with restored vision in both of her eyes.
